研究室のスケジュール（学生向け）/Laboratory activity schedule (for students)
学士課程４年生、修士課程１年生・２年生の学生さん向けの研究室（研究）スケジュールを簡単ですが紹介します。標準的なスケジュールとなりますので、早期卒業や留学などを考えている学生さんについては、個別に相談しつつ研究を進めることになると思います。
The following is a brief introduction to the laboratory (research) schedule for students in their fourth year of the bachelor’s program and first and second year of the master’s program. This is a standard schedule, so if you are thinking of graduating early (or studying abroad for Japanese student), we will consult with student individually.

※1: 【重要】年間を通した個別/グループミーティングは、実質的な研究活動の進捗共有を必要とします。これにより、研究の目的達成へ向けた、問題解決などに取り組みますので、ミーティングでは具体的な進捗の共有が求められます。なお、個別/グループミーティングとゼミでの活動は、次のような単位と関係します：学部生は「学士特定課題研究」「学士特定課題プロジェクト」、大学院生は「土木工学講究」。いずれも必修単位となります。In addition to meeting attendance, sharing of the substantial progress of research activities is required for working on problem-solving and other issues to achieve the objectives of the research. So specific progress should be shared at the meeting. The research meeting and seminar activities are related with the following credits: “Undergraduate thesis” for undergraduate student and “Seminar in Civil Engineering” and “master/ph.D thesis” for graduate student. All of these are required credits.
※2: 早期卒業や後期での留学などを考えている学生さんについては、このスケジュールとはならず、スケジュールをかなり前倒しすることになります。そのため、個別に相談に応じています。
For students considering early graduation or studying abroad in the second semester, this schedule will not be applied. We need to discuss the schedule individually.

※2 修士課程での活動（修士論文研究、講義、就職にかかわる活動など）は多岐にわたると思います。その中で、学位取得を目指した修士論文研究は、修士の学生にとって最も重要度が高いといえます。研究活動は実験や理論計算などの結果を出すことだけでなく、得られた成果を論文としてまとめて、発表する能力も求められます。その意味において、環境工学研究フォーラム、水環境学会などは修士学生の研究能力を育む重要なプラットフォームであると考えています。修士課程１年目までの研究を２年目の５月までにまとめることで、上記の学会における研究発表を強く推奨します。過去の卒業生の例をいくつか記します。There are a wide variety of activities in a master’s program (master’s thesis research, lectures, activities related to employment, etc.). Among them, master’s thesis research, which is necessary for pursuing the degree, is the most important for master’s students.
Research activities require not only the ability to obtain the results from experiments and theoretical calculations, but also the ability to summarize and present the obtained results. In this sense, I believe that the some domestic and international conferences (like JWET) could be an important platform for fostering the research skills of master’s students. I therefore strongly encourage students to summarize their research to the first year of the master’s program during the second year, and to present their research at the domestic and international conferences.
